Is SKI a faith-based organization?
SKI is not incorporated as a faith-based organization and
requires no formal expression of faith on the part of its staff, volunteers or
participants. SKI is focused on
imparting ICT entrepreneurial skills training to young people of all faiths by
leveraging their expertise from all faith backgrounds (including those with no
expressed faith conviction).
However, SKI
considers itself a “faith driven” organization, as the vast majority of its’
board members, staff, patrons, ambassadors, donors, volunteers and participants
feel God’s calling to do such work. Further, we strongly believe that
values-based personal transformation is required for people to stay out of
trouble. We do not know of a better catalyst for transformation than God/Allah. And participants desiring to
pursue their walk with God are encouraged to do so, though no one is strictly required to do so. Spiritual
teaching on topics such as Faith in
God, love, patriotism, obedience,
submission to authority and leadership, integrity and hard work
are vital parts of the programmes of SKI
Africa.
We
are almost entirely funded through philanthropy; in
fact, nearly 100% of the organization’s revenues are provided by grants from
non-government agencies, foundations, donations from individuals and corporate
entities. SKI could not exist
without the charitable giving of our generous base of donors and supporters.
Who teaches your curriculum?
Seasoned graduate teachers from various
professions. Notable among them ICT professionals. Currently, the CEO is serving in a dual capacity as
both the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation and one of the instructors
of our programmes. He oversees the day to day activities and does much of the
teaching along with other instructors every week.
Will the project/programmes be expanded to
other countries?
Thanks to the increasing levels of support we receive from
our donors, partners and sponsors. We are planning to triple our current
capacity by scaling our programmes to fully occupy regions country-wide.
Therefore, we are primarily focused on achieving this goal before taking on the
significant challenge of expanding into another country. Beyond the need
to fully capitalize on our existing opportunities, we also need to improve the
sustainability of our revenue base for our programmes and operations in Ghana
before considering other jurisdictions. That said, we have received a number of
serious inquiries from several other areas, and we are beginning to plan how we
can effectively respond without threatening the viability of our core
operations in Ghana.
What is it like to work for SKI Africa?
SKI is typical non-profit
organization. We have a fast-paced culture, a results-oriented management team
and a staff that is fueled by a passionate belief that we can change a life
every-single-day! For our employees, SKI
is not a job – it is a way of life.
What are your hiring needs?
SKI has an amazing person in every position on its staff. We
“hire from outside and within” (employing our graduates upon completion) since
the beginning, with the belief that exceptional talent exists among our youths
on the street. Additionally, when an opening
does occur, we first advertise in the media. We complement our graduates’
skills with business backgrounds. Our staff will always consist of many of our
own graduates.
Additionally, at SKI Africa, we believe in the importance of “practicing what we
preach.” SKI seeks employees with a
strong moral compass; employees are expected to be models of our values before all our
constituents.
